The beloved Alicia
The Alicia wallpaper pattern was hand-painted by our designer Sissa Sundling in 2015 for launch in our former Beautiful Traditions collection. This wallpaper was named after Swedish star Alicia Vikander, who won an Oscar in 2016 for her role in The Danish Girl. The pattern is elegant but striking; a floral wallpaper for many homes and styles.
“Alicia is one of the first patterns I painted after joining Boråstapeter, and is one of my favourites. Although striking in its design, the balance of both the colours and contours makes it easy on the eye when it goes up on the walls. This design is an ideal application for large and small interiors alike,” says Sissa Sundling, Head of Design at Boråstapeter.
The Alicia pattern is collagraph-printed, which gives the wallpaper both a contemporary and traditional look and texture. The beloved original with its dark blue background is now available in the Vårt Arkiv collection along with three other colourways, two of which are brand new.
“Knowing that the design was going to be collagraph-printed, I painted the original using gouache technique and opaque watercolours, which best resemble collagraphic printing. The inspiration came from early 18th century patterns, which is perhaps hard to believe, given its contemporary look.”
